Ever since high school, I've always wanted to wear things nobody else had. At 16, during a band trip to Calgary, I bought authentic cowboy boots and lived in them. That is, until cowboy boots blew up a few years later. (Thanks, Jessica Simpson.) To this day I swear I was ahead of the curve!
Speaking of things others are unlikely to have, a button-down maxi skirt with suspenders certainly fits the bill. When I saw this skirt I knew I had to have it. It's different but functional, and perhaps most importantly, it's black. When it comes to slightly "weird" pieces like this, it's important for the color to be basic and versatile so that it integrates seamlessly with the pieces already in your wardrobe. Case in point, I already owned everything else in this outfit. The skirt just took them all in a completely different direction.
And you can bet that, even in New York, I've yet to see anyone with anything even remotely similar. :)
Thanks for stopping by!
