Call me crazy but to me, fanny packs are fabulous. They've just been done all wrong for so long! A good, dressed-up, pretty bum bag is as comfortable as it is practical—"Look, Ma, no hands!" The key to wearability is to find one that looks like an actual purse: simplicity (think solid colors) and ladylike details (think statement hardware and a waist chain to mimic jewelry) are your friends. If you can envision it over your shoulder as a purse, it passes the test! I love to wear mine when going out at night in dresses that don't define the waist, such as sweater dresses or, my favorite, backless maxi dresses. The chain doubles as a belt to cinch the waist, PLUS I can dance the night away without worrying about where my things are. Double win!
